Apprenticeship 1957 -1963
After leaving School at 15 I worked briefly with my Dad at Pitt Trailers before starting my apprenticeship on my sixteenth birthday with Vickers Armsrongs at their Crayford Works in Kent . It was a 5 year course as a Fitter & Turner at the end of which I graduated to the drawing office as a draughtsman. I my 2nd year I was apprentice of the year out of 400 lads ,the award for this was a month at Outward Bound Mountaineering School Ullswater U42 . in Cumbria
I spent another year installing Bottling & Labeling Equipment for Vickers in Breweries and wine Cellars all over England.
Later I joined Plessey at their then secret research laboritories Roke Manor near Romsey Hants where I worked designing ECM equipment for TSR2 . When Harold Wilson cancelled this project I made plans to marry and emigrate.
